Elżbieta Murawska



Elżbieta Murawska was born on 27th of July, 1938 in Cracow. Through the years 1956–61 she was studying at Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw. She received the Final Diploma at Faculty of Graphics, under the guidance of prof. Henryk Tomaszewski. In the years 1973–81 she was employed as Chief Art Designer of Department of Fiction at Ludowa Spółdzielnia Wydawnicza Publishing House, then in the years 1981–88 she was employed as Chief Art Designer of Children’s Department of KAW Publishing House.














Elżbieta Murawska is recipient of numerous awards and honor mentions:

  • 1965 Bronze Medal of IBA in Leipzig for Hup, Leokadia! by Joanna Kulmowa (Nasza Księgarnia Publisher, 1965) and honor mention for Child in the Polish Poetry. Selected Poems (Nasza Księgarnia Publisher, 1963)
  • 1966 Golden Medal for illustrations at Biennale in Sao Paulo (Brazil)
  • 1967 Golden Apple at I International Biennale of Illustration in Bratysława for illustrations to The Blow of Painted Wind by Wiktor Woroszylski (Nasza Księgarnia Publisher, 1965) – jointly with Marian Murawski
  • 1975 Main Award at Polish Society of Book Publishers Award for The Journey to the other world by J. Kupiec (LSW Publisher, 1975)
  • 1976 Medal at Biennale of Graphic Design in Brno for illustrations The Journey to the other world by J. Kupiec (LSW Publisher, 1975)
  • 1978 Honorary Award of the Book Graphics Commission of Polish Society of Book Publishers
  • 1978 The Award of the Prime Minister of Poland for Artistic Contribution for Children
  • 1983 Plaque at International Biennale of llustration in Bratislava for illustrations to Grimm’s Fairy Tales: Children’s and Household Tales (collected by brothers Grimm)(LSW Publisher, 1982)
  • 1984 Medal at the Biennale of Graphic Design in Brno for illustrations to James and the Giant Peach by Roald Dahl, (Nasza Księgarnia Publisher, 1982)
  • 1984 Little Golden Goats at the Biennale of Illustration in Poznań for Grimm’s Fairy Tales: Children’s and Household Tales (collected by brothers Grimm)(LSW Publisher, 1982)
  • 1988 The Award of the Prime Minister of Poland for Artistic Contribution for Children
  • 1991 The Art Critics Award at Biennale of Graphic Design in Brno for illustrations to On King’s Daughter Bewitched Into Frog and Other Fairy Tales by Antoni Józef Gliński (Glob Publisher 1991)
  • 2008 Medal of the Polish IBBY Section for the lifetime artistic achievements
